Book and promotional material for a group art show as part of an ongoing relationship with the South East London based Hannah Barry Gallery.
Programmed to coincide with Frieze Art Fair 2008, Optimism: the Art of our Time was a major group exhibition exploring and celebrating the concept of 'optimism' as a set of values, and questioning its potential role in the future.
The design needed to be bold, positive and work in the context of a very busy exhibition space. Focusing on the word itself, invitations and flyers were produced on five different coloured stocks to bring them to life whilst keeping to the gallery's quite austere established aesthetic. A softback book of essays on the topic was produced to accompany the exhibition with an ultra-plain cover and illustrations by Edward Wallace.
