R:Fest

Identity and promotional material for Runnymede International Literary Festival, an annual event on the borders of London and Surrey.

One aim of the festival was to inspire more creativity and communication within the very diverse area and to provide a sense of community. The identity was based around the idea of the spoken word, with a logo using speech marks as punctuation.

For the first year's event, the promotional imagery used photography by Helen McArdle of a broad spectrum of the public mouthing phonemes – aural syllables – that made up messages about the festival. These 'visual texts' ran across print and online materials.

For the following year, the colour palette was updated and the focus was more on the event speakers, using illustrations by Clementine Mitchell of the various luminaries.
